ASTA Foundation Kicks Off DRR Monitoring and Canal Restoration Project in Cox’s Bazar with IOM Support

ASTA Foundation, a dynamic youth-led local organization, has been awarded a significant project by the UN International Organization for Migration (IOM) titled “Monitoring of DRR Activities and Ali Khali Canal Restoration Works in Cox’s Bazar.”

Marking the official commencement of the initiative, the ASTA Foundation successfully organized a project orientation workshop, bringing together key stakeholders, including representatives from IOM, staffs, ASTA management etc. The meeting aimed to outline the project’s objectives, implementation strategies, and collaborative efforts to enhance disaster resilience and environmental sustainability in the targeted area.

The overall objective of the project is “To understand the impact of the training to the cyclone shelter management committees and community engagement activities on Ali Khali canal restoration works”.

The project focuses on monitoring of IOM’s DRR activities to mitigate disaster risks and restoring the Ali Khali Canal, a critical waterway in Teknaf, to improve drainage, reduce flooding, and support local ecosystems. By engaging community participation, the initiative seeks to foster long-term environmental and infrastructural development.

During the inception meeting, ASTA Foundation’s leadership emphasized their commitment to transparency, accountability, and community-driven solutions. Representatives from IOM praised the foundation’s proactive approach and highlighted the importance of such collaborative efforts in building a disaster-resilient Cox’s Bazar.

As a youth-led organization, ASTA Foundation continues to demonstrate its capacity to drive meaningful change, aligning with global sustainability goals and local development priorities. This project marks another milestone in their mission to empower communities and promote sustainable development in Bangladesh.
